$10,000 Ridgewater Scholarship Honors Former Atwater Police Chief

A new endowed scholarship at Ridgewater College will honor former Atwater Police Chief Trevor Berger while supporting future law enforcement students.

The Legion of St. Michael Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club’s Lakes Area Chapter says it contributed $10,000 to the Ridgewater College Foundation to establish the fund. The money was raised with help from supporters and the annual Schmidt-Berger Memorial Ride.

Berger died in 2022 after a battle with cancer. He served with the McLeod County Jail and police departments in Silver Lake, Eden Valley and Atwater before becoming Atwater’s police chief.

The contribution will be invested to provide scholarship awards to future law enforcement students for years to come.
