19-year-old Arrested/Charged After Climbing Rafters in Hutchinson Walmart

A 19-year-old was arrested and charged last week after he climbed into the rafters of the Hutchinson Walmart.

On Thursday, police were told Preston Arvid Root climbed up a support beam in the center of the store and used grocery shelving to brace on. From the top of the shelves he was able to climb onto the rafters.

Attempts were made to get him down using a store scissor lift hoist, but as the lift was positioned close to him, he would climb away.

Police say Root ultimately agreed to come down the same way he went up.

Root was arrested and has been charged with three misdemeanors for Trespassing, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Nuisance Affecting Peace and Public Safety.
