MAN TRAPPED IN TRENCH

The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office was called to an incident in rural Transit Township about four miles north east of Winthrop this (Tuesday) morning at 10:21 am.  Authorities say a drain tile employee had become trapped in a trench after its wall collapsed onto him.  24-year-old Nicholas Harvey was inside the trench laying drain tile when the trench wall gave way, partially submerging him up to his waist in dirt and mud trapping him.  The trench was approximately 10 feet deep and four feet wide.  Authorities say Harvey suffered apparent non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.  Winthrop Fire, police and ambulance and the Gaylord ambulance all assisted at the scene.
