Toby Keith Tribute Special Airing Wednesday on NBC
A new televised concert special this week features an all-star cast of country musicians paying tribute to the late Toby Keith, who died from stomach cancer this year at age 62. Airing this Wednesday, Aug. 28 on NBC from 9-11 p.m. ET, Toby Keith: American Icon documents a recent tribute show in the Country Music Hall of Famer’s honor. It precedes two collections of Keith’s music set for release this fall.
Filmed July 29 at a sold-out Bridgestone Arena, Toby Keith: American Icon brings together multiple generations of Nashville royalty performing Keith’s music. Among those peers and admirers are Luke Bryan, Tyler Hubbard, Jelly Roll, Parker McCollum, Darius Rucker, Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, Trace Adkins, Priscilla Block, Eric Church, Jordan Davis, Scotty Emerick, Brett Favre, Brantley Gilbert, Riley Green, HARDY, Jamey Johnson, Ella Langley, Leanne Morgan, Mac McAnally, Ashley McBryde, and Clay Walker. The show also features a special performance from Keith’s daughter, Krystal Keith.
Keith’s original recordings of many of the classic songs performed on the special can be heard on 13 Number Ones, a new compilation containing remastered versions of some of his best-loved hits. The album is scheduled for release on Oct. 4 in CD and vinyl formats. Color variants include red, white, and blue splatter vinyl via Walmart and a limited edition red and clear marbled vinyl exclusively through the Toby Keith and UMG Nashville web stores.
Also out Oct. 4 is a remastered reissue of Keith’s first holiday album, 1995’s Christmas to Christmas. The album, which features a mix of originals and traditionals, will be available on vinyl for the first time, including a limited edition transparent green pressing. Keith’s 2000 cover of Roger Miller’s “Old Toy Trains,” previously included on an out-of-print compilation, will be a bonus track on all vinyl editions of Christmas to Christmas.
