Twins get win over Angels, Buxton returning

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins won the rubber match of their three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels 6-4 at Target Field last night. The Twins tied the game at two with a Willi Castro R-B-I single in the bottom of the fourth before Brooks Lee put Minnesota up for good with a two-run double. Matt Wallner belted his 13th home run in the victory, while Royce Lewis added an R-B-I double that missed being a grand slam by inches. Cole Sands earned his seventh win in relief, while Jhoan Duran picked up his 23rd save. Minnesota still has a three-game lead over Detroit for the final A-L Wild Card spot at 78-68. Nolan Schanuel, Taylor Ward, and Jordyn Adams all homered in the losing effort, while Jack Kochanowicz was charged with his fifth loss after surrendering four runs on seven hits in five-and-two-thirds innings. The Angels have dropped four of five. The Twins are off tonight and will welcome the Cincinnati Reds to town tomorrow night.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Part of the calvary is hopefully on the way for the Minnesota Twins. All-Star centerfielder Byron Buxton is expected to be activated from the ten-day injured list in time for Minnesota’s game against the Cincinnati Reds tomorrow night. Buxton has been on the IL since mid-August due to a hip injury. The 30-year-old is hitting .275 with 16 home runs and 49 R-B-I in 90 games this season.
