Gopher Volleyball upsets top 10 Wisconsin
(Minneapolis, MN) — The 16th-ranked Golden Gopher volleyball team rallied to win the final two sets and topped seventh-rated Wisconsin last night 3-2 at Maturi Pavilion. The Golden Gophers won the second, fourth, and fifth sets to earn the victory. The final in the fifth set was 18-16. Minnesota improved to 8-3 on the season and 1-0 in the Big Ten. The visiting Badgers dipped to 6-4 on the year and 0-1 in the conference. Lydia Grote had a season-high 17 kills for the Gophers, while Melani Shaffmaster had 47 assists. Gopher head coach Keegan Cook says this was “a reminder that you get to be part of something bigger than yourself,” calling the win “pretty cool.” Minnesota will host number-ten Purdue on Saturday at 5:30 P-M. The Boilermakers lost to fourth-ranked Penn State last night 3-0.
