Empowering Communities, Celebrating Minnesota Locally

Gopher Womens Hockey begins this weekend

(Storrs, CT) — The third-ranked University of Minnesota women’s hockey team visits number-nine Connecticut tonight and tomorrow in a season-opening series for both clubs. The Golden Gophers return the nation’s top goal-scorer in Abbey Murphy, as well as a talented freshman class and a group of transfer athletes. Head coach Brad Frost says Connecticut provides a good early season test a talented, defensive-minded team. Minnesota finished a game short of the Frozen Four last year, ending the year at 27-10-and-2. The Huskies were 25-8-and-5 a year ago and lost to Minnesota-Duluth in the opening round of the N-C-A-A Tournament. Tonight’s game starts at 5 P-M with tomorrow’s contest set to face off at 2 P-M.
