Tiger Gameday – Week 5

Tiger Gameday – Week 5

Last Game: Rocori 35 Hutchinson 14

Game Recap: Rocori scored on their opening drive and never looked back. Hutch did have their chances in this game, but the diffence was conversions and turnovers. Hutch finished on the minus side of turnovers again and couldn’t convert first downs. The yardage battle wasn’t that different actually with Rocori gaining around 380ish yards, while Hutch got just over 300.

Current Record: 2-2

This Week’s Opponent: Becker (4-0)

About the Opponent: Week #3 of the Gauntlet, and if you’re gonna force me right now to pick someone to win the state title…I’m taking Becker. They have skill and speed. They can tackle on defense and convert on offense. There’s A LOT to like about this Becker team. Plus, the Bulldogs have a lot of returning players from last year…which is never a bad thing.

Key Hutch Players: Offensive Line (and TE’s)…I’ll go with the boys up front for this week. Last week Rocori had the size advantage and pushed Hutch around quite a bit. Can this unit regroup and have a good week? Becker is NOT as big as Rocori in size, but Becker is very fast and athletic. Opening holes for the RB’s is a real good start at keeping the offense on the field and converting when it matters.

4 Downs/Storylines:
First Down: 3rd and Manageable…I’ll stay on the converting note for this one. It’s a lot easier to convert 3 and 3 or less…rather than 3 and 8. Hutch was in that situation a lot last week. This is not an explosive Offense that can get 3rd and long a lot. Get positive yards per play and get into convertible situations.
Second Down: Turnovers. You’re not going to win much being in the minus side of the turnover ratio. There were a few key turnovers on drives where the offense was moving well. Those can’t happen. You can’t give Becker a short field in this game.
Third Down: Handle the speed. This Becker offense is very fast….How fast? Well last year Becker’s track team sent a 4x100m team to state…three of those kids start tonight in football. Let’s just say they’ve got speed. So the key to handling speed, is to not let speed out. Contain, and most importantly Tackle well! Becker will want to get to the edges. It’s your job to not let them get out there.

th Down/Quick Hit Keys: Second week of district play tonight, only 1 week left of districts…Get last week out of your head. What kind of a response can you give this week?…Number of plays can be key. Short drives are not what this team needs. But of course I’m not going to turn down a 1 play 80 yard drive…Don’t forget, we’re giving away Tshirts tonight to those coming to the game. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED…we’ve got about 150 Tshirts to giveaway and when they are gone, they’re gone!
