Slow Hunt Blamed On Unseasonably Warm Temperatures
Area grouse hunters are having a hard time harvesting birds with the unseasonably warm temperatures.
Conservation Officer Jeremy Woinarowicz in Thief River Falls says heavy leaf coverage is also being blamed for the low bird count. Violations encountered last week included possessing toxic shot, no small game license, allowing unlawful operation of an ATV by juvenile, no helmet on juvenile passenger of ATV, untagged migratory waterfowl, and other ATV registration violations.
Conservation Officer Sarah Jahn in Thief River Falls also spent time working the small game waterfowl seasons. She says enforcement action was taken for allowing illegal youth operation of an ATV.
Meanwhile, Conservation Officer Nick Bruesewitz in Karlstad spent the week working with waterfowl hunters, small game hunters, and responding to wildlife complaints. Enforcement action was taken for a group of hunters who entered a State Wildlife Sanctuary to hunt waterfowl.
