Boyfriend Arrested in Willmar After Incident in Vehicle

A 43-year-old Willmar man was arrested after police responded to the report of an active domestic taking place in a vehicle Wednesday morning.

A woman told police her boyfriend was having a severe mental crisis.

When police located the vehicle, they discovered the suspect had an active warrant for his arrest and was also in possession of a knife.

A crisis negotiator spoke with the man in an attempt to deescalate the situation, but when that failed and the man remained uncooperative, police fired a non-lethal “pepperball” into the vehicle and he exited the vehicle, was compliant, and was taken into custody.

He’s currently being held in the Kandiyohi County jail for obstruction of justice, interference with a 911 call, and on his outstanding warrant.
