Minneapolis premiere of ‘Purple Rain’ Broadway musical delayed until fall 2025

The new ‘Purple Rain’ stage musical will have a short premiere run in Minneapolis before heading to Broadway.

The opening of the Purple Rain stage musical has been pushed back, Hennepin Arts announced on Tuesday. The Broadway musical was set to have a short premiere run in Minneapolis beginning with previews on April 10 at the State Theatre before heading to New York City.

Purple Rain is now scheduled to have a pre-Broadway run in Minneapolis from Oct. 16 to Nov. 16 on the Downtown Minneapolis stage. The delay offers additional time for “creative development,” the theater tells Bring Me The News.
