Gopher VB Sweeps Northwestern

(Minneapolis, MN) — The 15th-ranked Golden Gopher volleyball team swept past Northwestern last night 3-0 at Maturi Pavilion in Minneapolis. Minnesota dominated play from the start, jumping out to a 7-2 lead in the opening set and never looking back. Gopher junior Julia Hanson of Prior Lake led the way with19 kills, while senior Melani Shaffmaster had 35 assists and nine digs. The Gophers improved to 13-6 overall and 6-3 in the Big Ten, while the visiting Wildcats dipped to 4-13 overall and 2-7 in the conference. Minnesota will visit Ohio State on Sunday for a noon match.
