Santana wins Gold Glove

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins in conjunction with Major League Baseball announced today that first baseman Carlos Santana has been named the recipient of the 2024 American League Rawlings Gold Glove Award at first base. This marks Santana’s first time winning the award.

Santana played in 146 games defensively, making 139 starts, while committing just four errors in 1,094 total chances over 1,250.0 innings at first base for Minnesota last season. The 38-year-old led all AL first basemen in games and innings played in 2024 and ranked tied for first among that same group in fewest errors committed (minimum of 1,000.0 innings played). The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native also led all major league first basemen in fielding run value (11) as well as outs above average (14) and was tied for second in defensive runs saved (8). After the season, Santana was named the winner of the Jim Kaat Award as Twins Defensive Player of the Year, as voted on the Twin Cities Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.

This year’s award marks the 45th time a Twins player has won a Rawlings Gold Glove Award and first time since Byron Buxton and Brian Dozier in 2017. Santana becomes the third first baseman in Twins history to earn the award, joining Vic Power (1962 and ’63) and Doug Mientkiewicz (2001).
