Boldy scores in overtime as Wild outlast Maple Leafs in 2-1 win

ST. PAUL, MN – Matt Boldy clinched a thrilling victory for the Minnesota Wild, scoring on a breakaway just 2:14 into overtime to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 on Sunday night.

The decisive play began when defenseman Jared Spurgeon chased down a loose puck in the neutral zone, sending it down the ice to Marco Rossi. Rossi tapped it forward to Boldy, who deftly maneuvered around Toronto goalie Anthony Stolarz to score the game-winner.

Filip Gustavsson was solid in goal for Minnesota, making 27 saves, while Stolarz turned aside 31 shots for Toronto.

Ryan Hartman opened the scoring for the Wild with his third goal of the season, a play that was briefly reviewed, putting Minnesota ahead 1-0 in the first period. However, William Nylander quickly equalized for Toronto with his team-leading ninth goal of the year.

In overtime, Boldy’s shot was the only one registered by either team, as Minnesota improved to 1-2 in extra time, while Toronto fell to 0-2.

Next up, Toronto will host Boston on Tuesday, and Minnesota will welcome the Kings on the same day.
