Boldy scores twice, Kaprizov has three assists in Wild’s 5-2 win over Sharks
SAN JOSE, CA – Matt Boldy scored twice, Kirill Kaprizov notched three assists, and the Minnesota Wild defeated the San Jose Sharks 5-2 on Thursday night.
Mats Zuccarello gave the Wild a 2-1 lead in the second period with a brilliant goal set up by Kaprizov, who threaded a no-look pass through multiple defenders. Kaprizov, who entered the game ranked sixth in the NHL with 17 assists, played a key role in the win.
Boldy then extended the Wild’s lead on the power play later in the second, and in the third period, Jonas Brodin blasted a slap shot from the point to make it 4-1. Boldy capped the night with an empty-net goal at 18:25 to secure the victory.
Zach Bogosian had opened the scoring for the Wild with a goal in the first period, giving them an early 1-0 lead.
Macklin Celebrini, the top overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, was the lone bright spot for the Sharks, scoring both of their goals. He tied the game early in the second period and then added another in the third. Interestingly, his two goals came against Marc-André Fleury, the NHL’s oldest player, making for a unique statistical pairing as Celebrini, the league’s youngest player, scored on Fleury, who was playing in his 1,029th career game. Fleury made 24 saves in the win, tying Patrick Roy for third-most games played in NHL history among goaltenders.
Next up, the Wild head to Anaheim to face the Ducks on Friday, while the Sharks kick off a four-game road trip against the New Jersey Devils on Sunday.
