Water Rescues in Kandiyohi County

Three hunters were rescued in two separate incidents in Kandiyohi County Saturday.

The Sheriff’s Office says the first occurred in New London Township after they received a report of two stranded duck hunters on the Middle Fork Crow River who were experiencing early signs of hypothermia after their boat filled with water in wind gusts of up to 30 MPH.

The hunters, ages 33 and 13, were able to abandon their boat and swim to a nearby island to call for help. The New London Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after the report and was able to rescue the two and bring them back to the access to get medically cleared by the New London Ambulance.

The second incident was reported on Big Kandiyohi Lake when a hunter was stranded

on an island after their boat sank. The hunter, age 32, was unable to make it back to the lake access due to his boat filling with water and sinking in wind gusts.

The Sheriff’s Office was able to rescue the hunter and return him safely to the lake access.
