High Speed Chase Ends in Crash
Sunday evening at approximately 7:04pm, the Renville County Sheriff Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a 2016 Dodge Charger, near the intersection of Highway 71 and County Road 17. The vehicle did not stop and sped off at a high rate of speed. Deputies from the Renville County Sheriff’s Office and an Olivia police officer pursed the vehicle into the city of Olivia. The vehicle ultimately crashed into a railroad embankment near the intersection of Elm Avenue West and 12th street north in Olivia. The pursuit lasted approximately 3 minutes and covered 3.5 miles. No one was injured. After the crash, the car was immobilized and the driver, 19 year old Carter Wittman for Redwood Falls was taken into custody. Wittman is expected to be formally charged by the Renville County Attorney’s office.
