Gaudreeau has 2 goals, assist as Wild beat Oilers 5-3 for 5th win in 7 games
EDMONTON, Alberta – Frederick Gaudreau led the Minnesota Wild to a 5-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night, scoring two goals and adding an assist. Matt Boldy, Marcus Foligno, and Marcus Johansson also found the back of the net for the Wild, who have now won five of their last seven games (5-1-1). Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was solid between the pipes, making 29 saves.
For the Oilers, Leon Draisaitl, Corey Perry, and Jeff Skinner scored, but it wasn’t enough as they dropped their third game in the last four. Stuart Skinner stopped 21 shots in the loss.
The game got off to an unusual start when Draisaitl sent a puck up the ice from his own blue line. It deflected off two skates and slowly made its way toward the Wild net. Fleury attempted to clear it but misplayed the puck, which hopped and slipped through his legs, giving Edmonton a 1-0 lead just 27 seconds into the game.
Looking ahead, the Wild will finish their three-game road trip with a matchup in Calgary on Saturday, while the Oilers will host the New York Rangers to complete their two-game homestand.
