UPSIDE DOWN CHRISTMAS TREE IN PLACE IN NEW ULM

A German tradition that dates back centuries is happening in New Ulm with the hanging of an upside down Christmas Tree at Hermann Heights park.  President and CEO of the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce Sarah Warmka says the upside down tree symbolizes faith and the Holy Trinity.  Jim Schwartz bought an area next to Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm to build on and donated the trees to the Chamber.   One of those trees now hangs along Center Street.  A 1976 crane originally used by Schaefer Crane Service is holding the tree.  Warmka says lights will be put on the tree Wednesday morning and then when the street lights come on in the evening, the tree will light up as well.  The tree will be up through the holiday season.
