FIRE DESTROYS VACANT VESTA CHURCH

A vacant church in Vesta was destroyed by a fire early  Tuesday morning.   Four different fire departments were called to the former First Presbyterian Church.  The fire was reported the around 1:15 am.  Vesta fire officials say the structure was fully engulfed so mutual aid was called in from Seaforth, Echo and Lucan.  The state fire marshal was called to investigate but a cause has not been determined.  No injuries were reported.  Vesta city history says the First Presbyterian Church was founded in 1899 and the church building was constructed in 1900.  The church members voted in 1991 to merge with another congretation in Redwood Falls and the Vesta church closed in 1992.
