Demolition of George’s Ballroom in New Ulm

A New Ulm landmark is coming down.

Demolition of George’s Ballroom started this morning (Monday) to make way for a multi-dimensional residential commercial building with commercial retail space.

The demolition is part of a redevelopment plan with Coldwell Banker Commercial Fisher Group of Mankato.

The ballroom closed in 1991 and Brown County acquired the property in 2004 due to tax foreclosure.  The building was sold at auction, renovated by new owners, and part of it re-opened for a short time.  The property was deeded back to Brown County in 2019.

Demolition is expected to take about three weeks.

The plan is to save some of the building including the large exterior “George’s Ballroom” sign.
