Kaprizov scores late in OT and NHL-leading Wild rally for 3-2 win over Canucks
ST. PAUL, MN – Kirill Kaprizov netted a dramatic overtime goal with just 23.4 seconds remaining, lifting the Minnesota Wild to a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night. The win marked their sixth in the last eight games. Frederick Gaudreau and Jake Middleton also found the back of the net for the Wild, while Filip Gustavsson stopped 30 shots. With the victory, Minnesota improved to 17-4-4, leading the NHL with 38 points.
Vancouver had a golden opportunity to win in overtime when Brock Boeser and his teammate broke away on a two-on-none rush, but Boeser’s shot struck the right post. The puck bounced out to Marco Rossi, who carried it into the Canucks’ zone and fed Kaprizov for a one-timer, which he buried for his 16th goal of the season and his ninth career overtime winner.
Vancouver’s Quinn Hughes and Jake DeBrusk each scored, and Elias Pettersson contributed two assists. Kevin Lankinen made 26 saves but suffered his first loss in 11 road starts.
DeBrusk gave the Canucks a 2-1 lead late in the second period with a goal at 19:19. However, Middleton quickly responded in the third, tying the game just 1:43 into the final frame.
Next up, Vancouver will kick off a six-game homestand on Friday against Columbus, while Minnesota embarks on a three-game road trip, starting with a matchup in Anaheim.
