BROWN COUNTY TRUTH-IN-TAXATION HEARING

Brown County held its Truth-In-Taxation public meeting Tuesday at the courthouse and no questions were asked.  Brown County’s 2025 preliminary tax levy was set at $17.9-million, a $1.4-million increase, or 8.99%,  from 2024.  The levy would create an 8% total county budget increase raising the total county budget to $45.8-million, up from $42.4-million.  Among the Brown County budget impacts were new hires, higher staff wages, health insurance costs and a county program aid reduction.  The 2025 budget will be adopted at the December 17 county board meeting.  The tax levy can’t rise over the 8.99% but it could be lowered.
