IRENE SMITH

Irene Smith, 89, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Monday December 9, 2024 at Sanford Medical Center Thief River Falls.

Celebration of life for Irene will be held at 11:00 AM on December 26, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Rev. Marilyn Grafstrom officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Rural Grygla.

On December 26, 1934, Irene was born to Clyde and Annabelle (Lee) Gay at Wolford, ND.

On May 9, 1952, Irene was married to Morris Hermanson.

On December 15, 1973, Irene was united in marriage to William “Willie” Smith at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, east of Grygla, MN. They made their home near Fourtown, MN, for a few years and then purchased land east of Valle Township, near Grygla, where they made their home.

Irene enjoyed embroidery and donated several items to Our Saviors Lutheran Church.  Growing flowers and making doughnuts for grandchildren also gave her much joy.

Irene is survived by her children: Pamela (Ralph) Smith, Paulette Dougherty, Timothy (Linda) Hermanson, and Kurt (Lenay) Hermanson;  grandchildren: Shawn Dougherty, Eric (Jackie Moe) Dougherty, Bryan (Kristine) Dougherty, Travis (Kallie) Dougherty, Kevin (Bess) Brambrink, Nichole Glenn, Amy (Arlen) Nelson, Doninic (Melinda) Hermanson, Gabriel (Tanile) Hermanson, Tiffany (Arlen) Eidelbes, Philip (Stefanie) Hermanson, and Bethany (Ben) Larson; great-grandchildren: Paige, Tyler, Heather, Amber, Kelly, Jamie, Payton, Taylor, Dylan, Hailee, Ethan, Aiden, Braxton, Zoey, Keagan, Tayla, Bentley, Kylie, Allie, Carter, Caden, Myrah, Hunter, Anthony, Raymond, Paizley, Breann, Teagen, and Kaelen; great-great-grandchildren: Theodore, Eloise, Zaylie and Cash; and cousin, nephews and nieces.

She is preceded in death by her husbands: Morris Hermanson and William Smith; son-in-law: Richard Dougherty, and brothers and sisters.
