Carol Ann (Jordahl) Barrett was born on May 23, 1938, on a farm near Boyd, MN, to parents, Grant and Alice (Erickson) Jordahl. She was the only girl in the family and was raised with two brothers, Dennis and Roger. Carol was baptized and confirmed at Riverside Lutheran Church in Dawson, MN. Carol’s education began in country school through eighth grade, then she attended high school in Boyd, graduating with the Class of 1956. Following graduation, she furthered her education in Whitter, CA. After attending college there for one year, she transferred to Mankato State College.

On June 6, 1959, Carol was united in marriage with Robert Barrett at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd, MN. To this union, two sons were born. Robert went into Active Duty with the Army on June 30, 1959, so Carol went back to Mankato State College to finish her degree. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Vocational Home Economics with a minor in Physical Education in 1960.

Subsequent to her graduation from college, Carol joined her husband, who was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK. When they returned to Minnesota, she found a job teaching at Wood Lake Public School. Carol and Robert lived in Dawson, MN, and she taught for one year in Boyd while Robert worked at the bank. In 1965, the couple moved to Ortonville, MN, where Robert found a job at the bank there and Carol taught school in Graceville. After one year of teaching in Graceville, she found her final career teaching at Ortonville Public Schools. Carol continued to teach until her retirement in 1998.

Aside from teaching, making her home, and raising her sons, Carol enjoyed golfing, Bridge Club, sewing, and reading. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church since 1965. Carol served her community as President of the FELCW twice, Chairman of Scandinavian Food Fair twice, Chairman of the church circle for several years, and was on the education council. She enjoyed Bible studies and teaching Sunday School when her children were young. Carol served on several committees with the Ladies Golf Association and Central Park Restoration.

Left to cherish Carol’s memory are her sons: Rick (Sandy) Barrett of Nassau, MN, and Michael Barrett of Coon Rapids, MN; three grandchildren: Tyler (Taylor) Barrett of Ramsey, MN, Tommy Barrett of Coon Rapids, MN, and Karolyn Barrett of Coon Rapids, MN; brother: Dennis Jordahl; sister-in-law: Delcie Barrett; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
