St Thomas MBB loses, Gophers Win

(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team took care of business with a 90-68 win over Morgan State yesterday at Williams Arena. Golden Gopher senior guard Mike Mitchell was a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor in the first half, including 6-for-6 on three-point shot attempts. He scored a Minnesota career high 22 points, all in the first half. Senior Dawson Garcia added 18 points and eight rebounds to push the Gophers to 8-5 on the season. The Gophers led by as many as 27 points in the victory. The visiting Bears dipped to 6-10 on the season. The Golden Gophers will resume Big Ten play on Thursday night when they host Purdue at 7 P-M at Williams Arena.

(Riverside, CA) — Freshman Nolan Minessale powered a near comeback by St. Thomas men’s basketball Sunday afternoon during an 81-79 overtime loss to U-C Riverside. The Tommies (10-5) overcame a 14-point deficit as Minessale scored a career high 27 points, the highest scoring game by a Tommie this season, before late free throws gave the Highlanders (9-5) the win. Minessale’s 27 points came on 9-of-13 shooting overall, along with two 3-pointers and 7-of-9 from the free throw line. The Tommies are in Fargo on Thursday evening when they face North Dakota State for a 7 P-M from Scheels Center.
