Marion Ann Mehrkens was born on September 30, 1945 at Mercy Hospital, Thief River Falls, MN to Marvin and Rodena (Van Lith) Mehrkens. She was baptized at Mercy Hospital and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. She attended Daisy Dale country school, Washington Elementary, and graduated from Lincoln High School.

After graduating high school, Marion worked at Fox Manufacturing near Badger, MN, Narverud Cleaners in Thief River Falls, and was a home health aide in St. Paul. She also taught Sunday school at St. John’s, which she thoroughly enjoyed. In 1972, she was united in marriage to Calvin Sorenson in Duluth, MN. The couple made their home on the Sorenson family dairy farm in Mayfield Township, Pennington County. She worked side by side with Calvin, milking cows and helping raise small grains and hay. Marion continued to live on the farm until she entered the hospital. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Plummer.

Marion enjoyed dancing with Calvin, playing cards, gardening, going for her daily walk, riding her four-wheeler, and mowing the lawn. She liked helping Dale and Carol on the farm and riding in the semi with Dale delivering hay. The last twenty-three years, her greatest joy came from spending time with her granddaughter, Lisa. She attended all of her school activities. The last few years her favorite thing to do was have lunch with Carol and Lisa in town.

Marion is survived by her daughter, Carol (Dale) Kolseth of Plummer, MN; granddaughter, Lisa (Cory) Schmitz of Plummer, MN; siblings, Albert Mehrkens, Darrel (Sherry Sorenson) Mehrkens, and Verla Erlandson all of Thief River Falls; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
