LT. GOVERNOR FLANAGAN ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR U.S SENATE

Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan has officially launched her campaign for U.S Senate, a week after saying she would run following Senator Tina Smith’s declaration that she would not seek re-election next year.  Flanagan is a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe and is the country’s highest ranking Native American woman elected to executive office.  She wrote on social media that, in Ojibwe, her name means “speaks in a loud and clear voice woman” and that she has worked hard to live up to her name.  Senator Smith announced her decision to not seek re-election was personal and not political.  She has 20 years in the public sector.
