Chanhassen H.S. Student Arrested for Possession of Gun w/Auto Sear
A Chanhassen High School student was arrested Tuesday afternoon for being in possession of a handgun fitted with an auto sear, which converts a firearm from semiautomatic to fully automatic.
The Carver County Sheriff’s Office says they learned that 18-year-old Nicolas Rafael Navarro of Shakopee was a passenger in a vehicle during a traffic stop in Chanhassen in January. Through further investigation, it was learned he was allegedly in possession of the illegal gun during that traffic stop.
Authorities say he was arrested at the school Tuesday without incident and booked into the Carver County Jail and has since been charged with possession of a machine gun/trigger activator.
The Sheriff’s Office says he was not in possession of any weapons during his arrest.
