DNR Reminds Anglers to Check Special Management Water Rules

Officials with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are reminding anglers that Lake of the Woods is a special management water and the rules differ from statewide inland water rules.

Conservation Officer Tony Hams in Warroad spent the week checking area anglers and following up with various complaints. He says fishermen there are reporting success but he would like to remind anglers that are new to Lake of the Woods to double-check the regulations. Violations encountered last week included no license in possession, overlimit of walleyes, illegal-length walleyes, and angling with extra lines.

Conservation Officer Ben Huener in Roseau also reports violations for the week included possession of an overlimit of walleyes and illegal-length walleyes.

Meanwhile, anglers on Upper Red Lake reported mixed success as temperatures ranged from the upper 80s early in the week to mid-30s later in the week.
