AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR TEEN ON COTTONWOOD COUNTY LAKE

Cottonwood County authorities are searching for a teenager who went missing while canoeing on Eagle Lake northwest of Mountain Lake Monday evening.  The sheriff’s office received a call around 6:45 pm that a 15-year-old boy went missing.  Authorities say the teen jumped into the water to get a lost oar and attempted to swim back to the canoe.  The wind pushed it further away.  The boy then tried to swim to shore but the family member lost sight of him.  Emergency personnel searched the shoreline and the lake until 2 am and then continued this (Tuesday) morning at daybreak.  Authorities say there were no lifejackets in the canoe.  Police and fire from Windom and Mountain Lake along with the DNR and the state patrol assisted at the scene.
