Tiger Gameday – Week 6

Tiger Gameday – Week 6

Last Game: Willmar 29 Hutchinson 23

Game Recap: Hutch had a chance in the fourth quarter in this one. Having a drive to take a lead, but instead giving up a Scoop and Score to Willmar to seal the loss. The Offense did look better in this game Garnering over 250 yards of offense, and the OL opening some holes. Defense only gave up 20 points which is a bright spot (9 from the scoop and score and a safety given up).

Current Record: 1-4

This Week’s Opponent: Detroit Lakes (1-4)

About the Opponent: Both Hutch and DL have beaten the exact same team this season: Princeton. Hutch did it in week 1, DL in week 3. Both teams are similar in the fact that their Defenses has been their strong suit, while the offenses have struggled. The Lakers do have a couple playmakers to watch for in Ryan Francis and Dawson VonRuden. You’ll also see a lot of Lakers going both ways tonight as well.

Key Hutch Players: Hutch DB’s. As mentioned above one of the playmakers for DL to watch for is WR Dawson VonRuden. He’s targeted A LOT in the passing game. Willmar racked up over 170 passing yards last week with a 66% completion rate. DL saw that, I expect them to try that as well. Can Hutch cover and tackle VonRuden and the rest of the receivers.

4 Downs/Storylines:
First Down: Turnovers. Without bad turnovers Hutch could have been 3-2 right now. Turnovers were a big reason for the 1 point loss to Rocori and the 6 point loss last week. Be able to hold onto the ball and not give it up. On the other hand, the defense getting some turnovers would be a big help as well.
Second Down: Run the ball. Hutch improved in every aspect of the run last week. OL opened up some holes, Running backs ran hard. It was nice to see improvement there. Keep that improvement going. Can you have your best week of Running so far?
Third Down: Finish Drives. One of the issues of the past few weeks as well is having drives stall out at the 20 yard line. Sure defenses stiffen up the closer their backs get to the endzone, but you can’t let that stop you. Keep going, keep pushing, and get that mentality that no one’s gonna stop us.
4
th Down/Quick Hit Keys: According to mapquest it’s a 3 hour 13 minute drive tonight. A lot of time on the bus, and a schedule that gets changed up a bit. Does the long drive affect anything tonight? It shouldn’t unless you let it…It’s Detroit Lakes’ Homecoming tonight…Last time these two schools played was in the 2000 State Football Quarterfinals.
