Longtime Savage mayor announces retirement during council retreat

(Savage, MN) – SAVAGE PACER – Longtime Savage Mayor Janet Williams informed members of the City Council she will not be seeking another term on the city council, according to Savage Spokesperson Emily Gunderson.

“Mayor Williams announced last night at the City Council retreat that she will not be seeking another term as mayor,” Gunderson wrote in an email.

Williams was first elected to the city council in 2003 serving a four-year term and then later was elected as mayor in 2007, according to the city website. Her term expires at the end of this year.

Council member  Christine Kelly, who is up for re-election in November,  confirmed on Tuesday morning she would be running for Mayor. In a phone call she said she had no plans on challenging Williams.
