Renville County Jail Scam

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about an increase in scam calls involving individuals currently housed at the Renville County Jail.

Authorities say they’ve received a higher-than-normal number of calls reporting that scammers are using inmates’ names and claiming that, due to overcrowding, a loved one can be released to home monitoring for a fee.

The Sheriff’s Office says it’s a scam and they will never call requesting money, gift cards, wire transfers, or electronic payments for an inmate’s release.

They advise that if you receive a call like this, hang up immediately.
