Gopher Womens BB wins, Tommie Men lose

(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The Golden Gopher women’s basketball team won for a seventh consecutive time with an 84-67 victory Nebraska last night at Williams Arena. Minnesota senior guard Amaya Battle of Hopkins led the group of all five starters who scored in double digits with a game-high 21 points. Mara Braun of Wayzata added 15 points, while Sophie Hart of Farmington chipped in with 14 points. The Gophers jumped out to a 26-13 lead at halftime and built the lead to 21 points in the second quarter. The visiting Cornhuskers eventually cut the advantage to six points in the fourth quarter before Minnesota closed on a 13-2 run to put the game away. The Gophers improved to 19-6 overall and 10-4 in the Big Ten. Nebraska dropped its fourth straight contest and dipped to 16-9 overall and 5-9 in the league. The Gophers are at Wisconsin on Sunday at 5 P-M.

The St. Thomas men’s basketball team was upset at Omaha last night 98-94. The Tommies were outscored 15-2 during a key stretch of the late second half to go from a 76-71 lead to trailing 86-78. St. Thomas guad Nolan Minessale led the way with 17 points. The Tommies are now 20-7 overall and 9-3 in the Summit League. The Mavericks are now 13-14 overall and 6-6 in the conference. St. Thomas visits Kansas City tomorrow night at 7 P-M.
