Gopher WBB Wins 7th Straight

The Golden Gopher women’s basketball team won for a seventh consecutive time with an 84-67 victory Nebraska last night at Williams Arena. Gopher head coach Dawn Plitzuweit says their fourth quarter defense was a key.

Minnesota senior guard Amaya Battle of Hopkins led the group of all five starters who scored in double digits with a game-high 21 points. Mara Braun of Wayzata added 15 points, while Sophie Hart of Farmington chipped in with 14 points. The Gophers jumped out to a 26-13 lead at halftime and built the lead to 21 points in the second quarter. The visiting Cornhuskers eventually cut the advantage to six points in the fourth quarter before Minnesota closed on a 13-2 run to put the game away. The Gophers improved to 19-6 overall and 10-4 in the Big Ten. Nebraska dropped its fourth straight contest and dipped to 16-9 overall and 5-9 in the league. The Gophers are at Wisconsin on Sunday at 5 P-M.
