Gopher Baseball falls short vs Kansas
(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The Golden Gopher baseball team lost its first home game of the year last night, falling to Kansas 8-7 at U-S Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The Gophers scored first on back-to-back homers from catcher Weber Neels and Charlie Sutherland in the third inning before the visiting Jayhawks scored five runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. Kansas eventually built the lead to 8-3 before Minnesota to within one in the bottom of the ninth inning, but left the tying run stranded at second base. Neels hit a pair of homers in the game. The Gophers are now 5-2 on the season and will host Kansas tomorrow night at 6 P-M at U-S Bank Stadium in game two of the four-game non-conference series that carries into the weekend. The Jayhawks are 6-2 this season.
