College Sports…Gopher Hockey and Tommie Mens Basketball with upsets
(Ann Arbor, MI/Minnesota News Network) — The University of Minnesota men’s hockey team beat second-rated Michigan last night 4-2 in Ann Arbor. Golden Gopher sophomore forward Brodie Ziemer of Chaska scored twice and had an assists to help Minnesota rally from a 1-0 deficit after one period. Sophomore forward L-J Mooney added a goal and an assist, while junior forward Tanner Ludtke (LUD-kee) of Lakeville scored a goal, as well. Gopher goaltender Luca Di Pasquo made 37 saves in the win. The Gophers improved to 11-19-and-2 overall and 7-13-and-1 in the Big Ten. The host Wolverines dipped to 25-7-and-1 overall and 16-6-and-1 in the league. Game two of the two-game Big Ten series is tonight at 5 P-M at Yost Ice Arena.
(St. Paul, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The St. Thomas men’s basketball was red hot from three-point range and whipped the Summit League regular season champion North Dakota State Bison in St. Paul last night 84-62. Tommies junior forward Carter Bjerke of Plymouth was 7-for-9 from three point range, scoring 21 points to pace St. Thomas. He made six three-point baskets in the first half. Freshman guard Nick Janowski also scored 21 points. The Tommies are now 22-8 overall and 11-4 in the Summit League. The Bison fell to 23-7 overall and 13-2 in the conference. St. Thomas will host Omaha on Saturday night at 7 P-M at Lee & Penny Arena in St. Paul.
