Gopher Woman Wrap Up Regular Season With Win

The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team closed out the regular season with a road win at Illinois yesterday 78-73. Senior center Sophie Hart of Farmington led the way with 17 points, including ten in the first quarter. Senior guard Amaya Battle of Hopkins added 16 points and eight rebounds, while Mara Braun of Wayzata chipped in with 11 points. Braun was 3-for-4 from three-point range, including a big long shot late in the game. The Gophers outrebounded the Fighting Illini 39-25 and scored 12 second chance points. Minnesota earned a double-bye in this week’s Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament in Indianpolis and will play a quarterfinal game on Friday afternoon in Indianapolis. The 22-7 Gophers also stand a strong chance to host the opening round of the N-C-A-A Tournament.
