NFL Approves rule changes
(Phoenix, AZ/Minnesota News Network) — At the 2026 N-F-L Annual League Meeting (March 29–April 1) in Phoenix, owners approved several key items at the Arizona Biltmore. They passed multiple Competition Committee rule changes focused on special teams and officiating: teams can now declare an onside kick at any point in the game, the kicking team’s incentive to intentionally kick out of bounds from the 50 was removed, receiving team alignment was adjusted, and a one-year contingency rule was added allowing N-F-L officiating to correct clear missed calls (like roughing the passer) via replay assist during potential referee work stoppages with replacements. Business votes included unanimously awarding Super Bowl LXIII (2029) to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and approving the Raiders’ updated ownership succession plan, giving minority partner Egon Durban first option to buy if Mark Davis sells or passes. The Browns withdrew their proposal to allow draft-pick trades up to five years out due to lack of support, and no ban on the tush push was voted on. Discussions covered international expansion (record nine games abroad in 2026, including Australia) and flag football growth. Coaches and general managers held media sessions on rosters and the draft, with Commissioner Roger Goodell closing the meetings.
