Rays take series from Twins
(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The Minnesota Twins got a solo home run from outfielder Matt Wallner in the second inning and did not score again, losing to Tampa Bay yesterday 4-1 in ten innings. The Rays scored three times in the top of the tenth inning off of Minnesota reliever Justin Topa, who took the loss. The Rays improved to 4-5 on the year behind the extra inning homer from Richard Palacios. Twins starter Simeon Woods Richardson was on his game, working six-and-two-thirds-innings of one-run, five-hit ball. He fanned four and walked two, but got a no-decision. Minnesota collected only three hits the entire game for a second straight day. Twins outfielder Byron Buxton hit his tenth year of service in the big leagues with the game. He was 0-for-4. Minnesota opens a four-game series with division rival Detroit tonight at Target Field at 6:40 P-M. The Twins are now 3-6, while the visiting Tigers will enter tonight’s game at 4-5. In other team news, the Twins recalled pitcher Garrett Action from Triple-A St. Paul and optioned pitcher Zak Kent to the Saints.
