Severe Weather Awareness Week April 13-17
This is Severe Weather Awareness Week (April 13-17), with daily focuses on weather alerts, severe storms, flooding, tornadoes, and extreme heat.
The statewide tornado drills take place on Thursday at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., when outdoor warning sirens and NOAA Weather Radios will sound to simulate a tornado warning.
Officials say it’s a great reminder to review your emergency plan and make sure your preparedness kit is ready for severe weather season.
Each day of the week focuses on a different weather safety topic:
• Monday: Alerts and Warnings
• Tuesday: Hail, Wind, and Lightening
• Wednesday: Flooding
• Thursday: Tornadoes (with statewide tornado drills)
• Friday: Extreme Heat
Take advantage of Severe Weather Awareness Week to review your own and your family’s emergency procedures and prepare for weather-related hazards.
