Twins win to get best record in the AL
(Minneapolis, MN/Learfield News) — The Minnesota Twins are in sole possession of first place in the American League Central Division and own the A-L’s best overall record at 10-7 after a 6-0 win over Boston last night at Target Field. The red-hot Twins have won eight of their past nine games, including four straight. Minnesota outfielder Byron Buxton belted a pair of homers and scored four times to pace a Twins’ offense that collected ten hits. Buxton now has three homers in the past two games. Shortstop Brooks Lee hit his third homer of the season, while outfielder Trevor Larnach had a two-run single. Second baseman Luke Keaschall drove home the night’s first run on a single to shallow centerfield with Buxton scoring from second base. Twins starting pitcher Mick Abel had the best game of his Major League career, working seven shutout innings of four-hit ball. He fanned a career high ten batters and walked no one. He is now 1-2 this season and has not allowed a run in his last 14 innings over the past three games. Boston is now 6-11 on the season. Game three of the three-game series is today at 12:40 P-M. Minnesota is going for its second straight series sweep at home after having taken a four-game set from Detroit last week.
