Clinton, Minnesota, is receiving a $10,000 grant

The city of Clinton, Minnesota, is receiving a $10,000 grant to help preserve a piece of local railroad history.

The grant was issued by the Minnesota Historical society, which indicates the funding will “be used to contract with qualified professionals to prepare construction documents for the preservation of a Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Depot, listed in the National Register of Historic Places.”

The Clinton depot was constructed in 1906 and closed in 1969. Clinton’s Save the Depot Committee purchased the building and rehabilitated it in the 1980s.

The grant has been awarded from a legislative appropriation to the Legacy Amendment’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. In fiscal year 2026, $7 million is available for grants to support history programs and projects, or for activities to preserve significant historic and cultural resources.
