Twins rally to send Mets to 12th straight loss
(Flushing, NY/Learfield News) — The Minnesota Twins snapped a four-game losing streak with a come-from-behind 5-3 win over the Mets in New York last night. New York led the game 3-0 after five innings of play as Minnesota didn’t have a baserunner until the sixth inning. Twins outfielder Matt Wallner broke up the perfect game with a single to lead off the sixth, followed by a two-run homer from Byron Buxton to make it 3-2 Mets. Second baseman Luke Keaschall drove home the tying run in the seventh inning and then plated the go-ahead run in the ninth. Wallner drew a bases-loaded walk to add one insurance tally in the ninth. Cole Sands worked a scoreless eighth and ninth inning out of the bullpen to earn the win. Minnesota is now 12-11 on the year. Mets starter Nolan McLean was perfect through five and ended up striking out ten Twins hitters in working six-and-two-thirds innings. He got a no-decision. New York has lost 12 straight games and sits at 7-16 this year. Game two of the three-game interleague series is tonight at 6:10 P-M. In other team news, the Twins activated infielder Royce Lewis off the Injured List prior to last night’s game.
