Correa, Larnach’s big starts lead Twins to victory over Seattle
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – In the opening inning against Seattle’s George Kirby, Minnesota’s Carlos Correa and Trevor Larnach ignited a fireworks display with back-to-back home runs. Their explosive start set the tone for a 6-3 victory for the Twins on Wednesday night, paving the way for Chris Paddack to clinch his fourth consecutive win.
The momentum surged further as Willi Castro joined the home run parade in the second inning and later showcased his batting prowess with an RBI triple in the fourth, propelling the Twins to a commanding three-run lead. Paddack, building on his remarkable winning streak, delivered a stellar performance on the mound, striking out 10 Mariners while pitching into the sixth inning. Despite yielding a solo homer to Mitch Garver, Paddack remained resilient, allowing only one run against him.
The Twins entrusted Paddack with a season-high pitch count of 99, a testament to their confidence in his abilities. As he exited the game in the sixth inning, Paddack made sure to express his gratitude to manager Baldelli for the faith placed in him.
Castro, seizing the opportunity as the team’s regular center fielder in the absence of Byron Buxton, celebrated his home run by embracing the club’s lucky summer sausage in the dugout. With a quirky ritual of checking his batting gloves for any signs of decay, Castro ensured that luck remained on their side.
Despite Seattle’s efforts, highlighted by Kirby’s performance, they struggled to capitalize with runners in scoring position, going 1 for 7 with three strikeouts.
Looking ahead, RHP Logan Gilbert is set to start for the Mariners in the series finale, boasting an impressive 3-0 record and a stellar 1.69 ERA. On the other side, RHP Pablo López will take the mound for the Twins, aiming to maintain their winning momentum.
