County Clean-up Day a success!
Pennington County’s annual clean-up day was held May 2nd at Les’s Sanitation in Thief River Falls. The clean-up has been a hallmark of spring in recent years and is an opportunity for Pennington county residents to haul their “junk,” in a quick and efficient manner.
This year’s clean-up saw 269 loads pass through the front gate which included 25 tons of garbage. There were two more vehicles through the gate this year than in 2025 however total garbage was down about 15 tons.
Demolition debris is solid waste resulting from the demolition of buildings, roads, and other structures including concrete, brick, bituminous concrete, etc. The clean up received about 160 yards of demo debris which was up by 40 yards from 2025.
Household hazardous waste includes paints, cleaners, pesticides, automotive fluids, batteries, and fluorescent bulbs. The staff at the Pennington County clean-up saw an increase in hazardous loads which went from 53 in 2025 to 79 total loads this year. These loads may be a few light bulbs, a jug of antifreeze or several boxes of paint.
The event was staffed by Les’s Sanitation, Pennington County staff and commissioners, Pennington County Sentence to Service as well as City of Thief River Falls staff and council members. Please remember that you can bring in junk items, including hazardous waste, to Les’s Sanitation year-round. If you have questions, please call 218-681-7312.
