“100 Deadliest Days of Summer”
(Learfield News/St. Paul, MN) As Minnesotans hit the road for Memorial Day weekend, the state is also entering what safety officials call the “100 deadliest days of summer” — the stretch between Memorial Day and Labor Day when deadly crashes typically spike.
Shannon Grabow is with the state Office of Traffic Safety says preliminary numbers show that traffic deaths dropped by more than 100 in 2025 compared to 2024. That’s meaningful progress, but speeding continues to be an issue. In 2025, there were 388 speed-related serious injuries and 102 speed-related deaths.
Grabow says until there are zero deaths, there are no celebrations.
Extra law enforcement will be out this holiday weekend, targeting speeding drivers.
