Hundreds Gather at Fort Snelling for Memorial Day Ceremony

(Learfield News/Minneapolis, MN) — Several hundred people gathered Monday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery for Minnesota’s largest Memorial Day ceremony, honoring those who gave their lives while serving the country.

Fort Snelling Memorial Rifle Squad Commander Richard Middleton reminded attendees that freedom comes with sacrifice, noting that “some service members return home in draped caskets while others never come home at all.”

Middleton also told the crowd that military members answer a higher calling to serve and protect the nation, calling them heroes who secured the future for generations to come.

U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith also spoke during the ceremony.
