Willmar Mayor Not Seeking Re-election

(West Central Tribune/Willmar, MN) Willmar Mayor Doug Reese has announced he will not be seeking re-election in 2026.

Reese has served as mayor since January of 2023.

“After thoughtful consideration and discussions with family, colleagues and members of the community, I have decided that I will not seek reelection as mayor of Willmar,” Reese stated in a news release. “Serving the residents of Willmar has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am deeply grateful for the trust, support, and opportunity to work alongside community leaders, city staff, local organizations and citizens to help move our city forward.”

He added that during his time in office the city has faced challenges and celebrated accomplishments, he is proud of the progress that has been made and he is confident in Willmar’s future and the strength of its residents.

Mayor Reese had significant government experience, having served 27 years on the Willmar City Council and four years as the Kandiyohi County Commissioner for District 2.
